Review: Fixie Inc. Floater Race 8s

If you're a regular reader of this blog you may or may not have noticed that I have ridden quite a lot of bicycles in the last year or so. I think I have finally found what I've been looking for. Fixie Inc. Floater Race 8s I'm not a fan of having multiple bikes. I've done that and it's not for me. I much more prefer having one, maybe two bikes which are kept in good shape and ready to ride. So, I have sold all my bicycles and at the moment I only have one. I might buy another one for grocery shopping but that's about it. I saw this bike in an online store and started thinking that it would make a create gravel/touring bike for my adventures. I decided to buy it. I knew that I wanted to replace some of the parts from the get-go so I ordered those too. When the bike arrived I noticed that there will be some work to be done. Hub bearings on both wheels were way too tight. Rims were out of true pretty badly. Gears weren't working very well. However after servic

Story time: First snow

Back on riding fixed gear bicycle. It's simply the best type of bicycle for me. For the coming spring and summer I have some bold plans in place. At least one 1200 kilometers fixed gear ride as well as some others. We got our first snow fairly early this year. No better time to test my new, although somewhat incomplete, fixed gear touring bicycle. At the moment I ride Santa Fixie Born frameset. It's s a chromoly steel frame with good tire clearance as well as mounts for mudguards. My plan is to build a long distance fixed gear touring bicycle around this frameset. More about that later this year / early 2022. This time my ride was only about 80km, it was cold, snow and ice was on the ground and I had  a new bicycle so I though that 80km is enough for testing the basics. With studded tires mounted on it was time to start pedaling. Roads in the country side were mix of snow and slush. Some black ice here and there. It did not take long to realize how much rolling resistance ther

Story time: A stranger in the eyes of an era

It's almost like a cliché but sometimes it's not necessary to travel far for a thought provoking adventure. We are so busy in this society that our perception is constantly looking for the next big thing instead of concentrating to the current moment. On my recent fairly late summer night ride I stumbled upon an old railway stop. It's not in official use anymore but acts as a small shelter, kind of a picnic place I quess.  There are random books there. They have no common theme. Just books that people have brought in. In some sense this is beautiful. Think about it. Reading a random book, in a seemingly random railway stop, brough in by a random stranger.  I think it would make a lifelong memory to take the time to sit down in this place and read one random book from the shelf. Lifelong memories are foundations for the stories we tell our children. In our day and age people do not tend to do this kind of things anymore. We're too busy. Instead of living life to the ful
